Sales of newly constructed homes shows some improvement in July compared to the same month last year

The number of new houses sold in the United States that were in the "completed" construction phase in July was 17,000, compared to 16,000 in the same month the previous year, according to figures released jointly by the U.S. Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The Census surveys provide current national and regional data on sales of new single-family houses.

Included are current-month estimates and revisions for previous months, for new houses sold and for sale at the national level and by Census Region, and for average and median sales prices at the national level.

The results help provide an overview of the nation's current economic activity, and are used by manufacturers, insurance companies, and financial institutions to help ascertain supply and demand.
